Few animals have become as closely associated with climate change as the polar bear. Through no choice of its own, it has become a symbol of a warming planet and the challenges facing the Arctic.

But beyond the headlines, there is also incredible beauty in this harsh northern environment. The dancing northern lights, endless tundra, and remarkable wildlife remind us of what makes these places so special — and why they are worth protecting.

With this painting, I wanted to capture both the quiet strength of the polar bear and the beauty of the world it calls home.
